Funda Fun

ILT promotes learning readiness by addressing causes of common learning problems. One of the ways we achieve this is through our Funda Fun Developmental Movement Programme for Schools.

We believe that developmental movement programmes should be part of every school’s curriculum and carried out on a daily basis. This will ensure that children develop and function to their potential. Teachers can then teach effectively.

Providing opportunity for learning basic movement skills has a powerful effect on the general organization of the nervous system. Typical signs of disorganization include

  • inability to concentrate
  • difficulty completing tasks
  • reading, writing and spelling difficulties
  • maths difficulties

Many types of movement programmes are available to schools. Few include the developmental exercises that replicate the child’s developmental pattern. While we are not sure why so many children fail to progress through the developmental stages, we have learned through worldwide efforts and research that repetition of movements children make in the course of their development is a vital component of therapy to either prevent or remediate problems.

Training courses

Our developmental programme is made available through two-day teacher training courses to empower teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to implement a 10-minute daily movement programme into the curriculum.

No special equipment is required.

Topics covered:

  • Neurological development of the child
  • Role of reflexes in learning difficulties
  • Neurological and other factors in ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, and so on
  • Role of the visual and auditory systems in learning
  • Nutrition and environmental factors that impact on learning
  • The sequence of movements needed for healthy neurological development
  • Movements to enhance neurodevelopment

Changes that have been observed in children undergoing our developmental movement programme:

  • Improved task completion
  • Speed of processing information increases
  • Improvement in eye-tracking and other eye movements
  • Quality of handwriting and drawing improves (fine motor improvement)
  • Child is able to concentrate more on learning content than before
  • Level of activity in the child decreases (i.e. less ‘hyperactive’)
  • Participation in sport and music increases
  • Self-esteem and confidence rises

While Funda Fun is not a cure-all, and extra help or tuition may still be needed in certain academic areas, it does allow remedial therapy to be more effective. It is proving to be a useful, cost and time effective strategy for schools to help learners achieve closer to their potential.

Through Funda Fun, teachers can help many children before they fail and help assist those who are failing.

Where are the courses held?

Courses are regularly held at our centres in Centurion, Cape Town and Johannesburg. Dates of courses may be obtained from the Centre.

Can schools arrange for course to be held on-site?

Yes. Frequently schools request that we travel to them to give courses that involve larger groups of teachers from one or more schools. We have trained in neighbouring countries as well.

What are the costs involved?

The one-day training course is R1200 per person. The cost includes course materials.
